The Minister For Health&Children Commences The Outstanding Sections Of The Pharmacy Act 2007 Dealing With Complaints, Inquires And Discipline, Ireland
The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD, announced the commencement of the outstanding Sections of the Pharmacy Act 2007 to provide for the introduction of a Complaints, Inquires and Discipline regime for pharmacists and pharmacy businesses. Also included are Sections 63 and 64 of the Act, which relate to the prohibition of certain economic relationships between pharmacists or pharmacies and medical practitioners, or medical practices.

IPS Examines Legislative Measures To Fight HIV/AIDS
Inter Press Service examines several civil society organizations" argument that legislative measures aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS, "hurt more" than they "help." There are 58 countries with laws in place to "prosecute HIV transmission" and 33 others where such legislation is being considered, according to the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Several African countries have successfully scaled up their HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs, U.N. Special Envoy for HIV and AIDS in Africa Elizabeth Mataka said during a media briefing at the World Economic Forum on Africa being held in Cape Town, South Africa, the ZANIS/Lusaka Times reports. Zambia and Botswana were among some of the countries that have made significant progress in southern Africa, according to Mataka.

Patients With Flu Like Symptoms Should Call Their GP First

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is advising patients with flu like symptoms to call their local general practice to seek advice before presenting at the practice to seek care. The call comes as GPs continue to work closely with the Australian Government and relevant agencies to contain the spread of swine flu through the community. "While Australia is in the "contain phase" of managing this outbreak general practice has a key role to play in implementing the health system"s response. Advice that directs patients with flu like systems to present at their local general practice could potentially contribute to the spread of this disease, counteracting our efforts to manage its impact on our communities," said Dr Chris Mitchell, RACGP President and GP in northern New South Wales.
